Two engineers. Three markets. Twelve weeks.

As told by Google Cloud

  • Vendor-authored: written and published by Google
  • 3 markets live, with full transactional capability, inside 12 weeks
  • Campaign spikes of 200,000 emails at a time to a 20-million-strong user base, absorbed
As Google measured it

The best case studies are the ones someone else writes about you. Google published this one: “33Bondi’s small team delivers innovative, large-scale client projects” on Google Cloud.

The job inside it: Sundays Insurance needed a bicycle insurance web presence with full transactional capability live in Australia, the United Kingdom and the United States - in twelve weeks, in partnership with Strava. We shipped it inside the deadline, with two engineers.

The part we’re proudest of is what happened after launch: when Strava mailed its users in tranches of 200,000 - to a base of around 20 million - the platform scaled horizontally to meet each spike, with costs rising “in a predictable, controllable fashion”. Built to run, even back then: Kubernetes for the stateless parts, managed platforms for easy version rollback, and analytics pipelines feeding insight back to the client.

“The reason we formed is that we perceived early on that the cloud brings the ability to deliver big things with small teams of dedicated and driven people.” That was us in Google’s words years ago. It’s still the firm today - just multiplied.
